Shoes vs. No Shoes

So today I’m taking a different spin on the blog… I want to talk about the pros and cons of wearing shoes versus going barefoot. I love a good pair of shoes, but I don’t know how many times I’ve said, “man, I wish it was normal to just go barefoot everywhere.” Maybe you’ve said that to yourself before, maybe not, maybe you think I’m a freak and that’s totally okay. I’m going to break this argument down into 3 pros and 3 cons. So… if you’re curious to see where this is going to go, keep reading 🙂

Pros:

  1. Wearing shoes protects your feet – I know what you’re thinking, “Thanks, Captain Obvious.” Yes, I know this is obvious, but it is still a valid point. We can’t go around everywhere not wearing shoes because this world is a crazy and dangerous place. You can find anything from nasty chewed-up gum to drug needles on the ground and I know that I don’t want my feet touching any of that.
  2. Wearing shoes is how we express ourselves & our style – An outfit is not complete without a good pair of shoes, in my opinion. Not everyone would agree, I know, but in general, shoes complete your look — whether you’re a skater girl wearing sneakers or a preppy girl wearing Michael Kors shoes (p.s. totally not judging either way because I’d wear both!
  3. Feet are kind of gross… – Although I would love to go barefoot all the time, I don’t know that other people would appreciate that. I know I don’t want to see people’s feet. They’re better off in a pair of shoes. Enough said.

Cons:

  1. Shoes are not always comfortable – The second I walk through the door at home, I’m slipping my shoes off. I can’t stand to be uncomfortable. Even the best pair of shoes are still not as comfortable as going barefoot, but again, that’s my opinion. Summertime is THE BEST because shoes are no longer a requirement.
  2. Your feet get hot – When you’re wearing shoes, your feet can get hot. Have you ever gotten used to wearing sandals so long that any closed toe shoe felt like they were suffocating your feet? Or have you ever wore a pair of Ugg boots? So. stinking. Hot.
  3. Lastly, (if you’ve stuck around ‘til now, you’re a champ, because this is getting weird) if we didn’t have to wear shoes, we’d be making a progressive effort towards saving the planet, one. shoe. at a time. – No more shoes? That would mean less shoes in landfills… I’m assuming old shoes end up in landfills, right? But it would also mean less fuel and energy spent on producing shoes. I don’t know…it’s a thought.

Okay, I know my argument is not necessarily reasonable. Of course we have to wear shoes, but sometimes you just wish we didn’t have to.

Thanks for sticking around to the end. You rock! Maybe this is the weirdest blog you’ve read today, and if it is, then at least I’ve accomplished something. Have a fabulous week!
