Socks & Stocks…

Howdy! Welcome back to the blog! I thought I’d switch up the intro a bit this week – my coworker always says ‘howdy’ when she walks in and it’s great, so I thought I’d give it a try. I hope you’re doing swell as you read this blog, and if not, I hope this blog makes you smile. I’ll be talking about socks and stocks today… it should be fun. I don’t know how you feel about socks and stocks, but after you read this, you’ll know how I feel! So definitely comment below your opinions on the combination – I’d love to know. I wish they was a feature similar to the one on Instagram that you guys could vote: YES or NO. I’m just curious what the overall consensus is, but here’s my opinion…

My vote would be YES but with stipulations haha. So my general answer is: it depends. I know, it’s such a gray answer, but hey, my Econ professor thought that was a sufficient answer to just about any question in his class. (There’s so many factors in economics that any answer depends on something else!) I’ll tell you why I think that socks & stocks are okay in some circumstances while not in others, but first, I wanted to explain my brainstorming process for this blog post.

My best friend freaking loves Birkenstocks. She tried talking me into buying a pair for like forever, and finally I caved – but not because of her convincing 😉 I decided I needed a pair for college because they’re super comfortable, especially if you have to do a lot of walking. Anyway, my friend, Audrey… I’ll include a picture of her down below… loves Birkenstocks and has about five pairs probably – ridiculous, I know. (Just kidding, love ya pal *in case you’re reading this*) AND she loves to wear socks with her stocks. A little too much haha. So I just wanted to share that she was my inspiration for this blog post.

Here’s my best pal, Aud. Sadly, I couldn’t find a picture of her in her snazzy style of socks and stocks.

I think that some people can pull of socks with Birkenstocks, with the right outfit, and in the right setting. But, I also think that it doesn’t have to be that deep. Like, you can totally just throw on a pair of Birkenstocks with your socks and roll out the door if you want. You do you – and own it! I’m just a picky person, so I have preferences for when and where and how they are appropriate, for me

So when & where:

Some college campuses totally welcome the vibe – like Taylor University, where my best friend attends college – but Ball State doesn’t welcome it as graciously. Ball State has all kinds of styles and trends, given that we’re a larger campus, but I just feel like I don’t see many students wearing socks & stocks. Since I don’t see it on Ball State’s campus much, I’m leary of trying to pull it off. I stick to stocks without socks on BSU’s campus. But, that’s not to say that it couldn’t become popular on campus – and honeslty, I shouldn’t let others dictate what I wear. I should follow my own advice 😉

How to where them?

I think if you’re going to wear socks & stocks, boot socks are the way to go. Athletic socks are too sporty. Fun socks are too loud. Boot socks are typically the perfect color, material, and vibe to go with Birkenstocks – especially if your trying to protect your toes from the cold! I have brown Birks and I think that neutral-colored wool boot socks look the best with them. I will note that wool socks are pretty thick, so you may have to loosen the straps on your Birkenstocks to allow your feet to fit in them.

I also wanted to add my thoughts on another style – socks and Birkencrocs… yeah, that’s a mouthful, I know. I had never heard the term, “Birkencrocs”, until within the last few months. One of my friends has a pair – they’re rubber Birkenstocks. They are exactly what they sound like: a combination of Birkenstocks and Crocs, except I don’t think that Crocs actually had anything to do with the creation of these shoes. Anyway, my 12-year old cousins have knock-off Birkencrocs that they wear with athletic socks. They like to wear them when they leave sports practices. I think this is an acceptable style and not just because my cute little cousins pull it off 😉 I remember the days when I would leave volleyball practice and I always would slip on Nike slides, I totally would have worn socks and Birkencrocs.

So, to sum it all up – I support socks and stocks (and Birkencrocs!)

I hope you’ve enjoyed… let me know what you think about socks and stocks! And if you’re really bored, just count how many times I said socks and stocks in this blog haha!
