Shoe Fads Throughout My Life

Hey Readers! I hope you’re doing well. It’s a brand new week and this Thursday is Halloween! How fun – I loooove seeing people’s creative costumes. What are you dressing up as this year? I’d love to hear!! Comment below what you’ll be dressing up as. I haven’t dressed up in years, but I will be dressing up this year. My Bible Study group is all dressing up as pigs in a blanket. I can’t say that I came up with the idea, but I think it is so clever. I love it. We will all be wearing pink shirts and pig snouts haha! Oh! And we can’t forget the “in a blanket” part – we’ll all be wearing blankets also. I think it’s hilarious and awesome. My community group leader said she wanted to be the momma pig, but she also said that she was going to be a legit hotdog in a croissant soooo…. we’ll see! I’m excited, it’ll be fun. But with Halloween coming up, it’s fun to think about our childhood and what we dressed up as when we were kids. With that in mind, it’s also super fun to think back on the different trends and fads that were popular. So, let’s talk about shoe fads through the years (well, in the last ten years-ish, since that’s what I can remember).

There’s been several shoe trends that I’ve taken part in as I’ve grown up. I remember Heely’s and Crocs and Sperry’s and Uggs etc etc etc…. There’s been so many. My favorite shoe trend from elementary was definitely Heely’s. Heely’s were sneakers with a small wheel on the heel of both shoes. You could run and then roll on the back heel. It was like riding a skateboard without a skateboard haha. We probably looked ridiculous. I remember when I got mine and I could barely walk in them. I remember I was with my dad and my sister and we were going to a parade for Saint Patrick’s Day. It was still a little bit chilly outside and I was running through the parking lot trying to figure out how to use them. My dad said I looked like Bambi on ice. It’s funny how you can remember specific details from random events in your life. I’m glad I have that memory, because it’s totally hilarious. The next big thing I remember were Sperry’s. In middle school, everyone had to have a pair of Sperry’s. I think I avoided being like everyone else at first, but I caved. I had to find a pair of Sperry’s that no one else I knew had though. I didn’t want to match anyone. Everyone I knew had a pair of tan Sperry’s with either plaid on the sides or cheetah print. I had a pair of navy ones with plaid on the side and then I had a pair that were pewter with sparkles on the side. I absolutely loved those two pairs of shoes. They were quality shoes and I felt cool wearing them since they were the big fad in middle school. Uggs were also a big deal, but I’ve never owned a new pair of Ugg boots. Crocs were super in style when I was in high school and I think they are still in style, but I haven’t owned a pair of Crocs since I was like eight years old. I would own a pair, but I don’t have a strong desire to own a pair currently.

It’s funny how fads come and go, and it’s especially fun to reminisce on the old trends. Comment below your favorite trend from when you were growing up! Have fun strolling down memory lane 🙂 Have a great week folks!
